BERN – On May 20, Iraqi soldiers tried to surround the camp near the city of Maxmur with dozens of armored vehicles, heavy weapons and construction machinery. The population resisted the siege attempt, pushed back the Iraqi army and began to stand guard in tents.
Against the attempted siege of Maxmur, actions and events were organized in Kurdistan and in many parts of Europe, and statements of solidarity were made. At around 11:30 am today, Kurdish youth gathered in front of the Iraqi consulate in Bern, the capital of Switzerland, and performed an act of civil disobedience.
With the slogan “Maxmur wargeha jiyanê ye, li dijî dagierkirina jiyanê serî hilde ”, the youth protested in front of the Iraqi consulate and declared that they did not accept the siege of Maxmur.
LET’S TAKE CARE OF OUR YOUTH
The appearance and behavior of the people in the consulate did not go unnoticed. The police, called by the officers, held the 14 youths at the premises by handcuffing them behind their backs. The young people reacted to the arrests with the slogans “Bijî Serok APO”.
TCŞ and TekoJIN called for the Kurdish youth to be released and called for them to step up and join the fight. The revolutionary youth movements also called for taking to the streets for the release of the 14 youths.
The detention proceedings are still ongoing at this hour.
